Lean can do proofs beyond just algebraic manipulation - for example proving that a function is continuous, differentiable etc.
My experience is that LEAN is more general, but more of a headache if you want to move symbols around for a derivation.
I am not aware at how good Lean is in doing things ...

Re: Papert Lab Essay - What We're Working On and Thinking About
Had a cool discussion with Hudson about this on discord, looking forward to getting a clearer understanding of what spec design is in a future essay.

Re: Papert Lab Essay - What We're Working On and Thinking About
I enjoyed reading the Papert Lab introductory essay. In particular, I had never heard of the phrase constructionism, and I'm trying to figure out what that actually means. I had also never heard of the term specification design, and I think the specification design questions raised in this essay are ...

Re: Society session ideas
We discussed as an idea, a program to feed papers into Lean and then have it verify mathematical claims. But this is hard for a bunch of technical reasons

Society session ideas
Been trying to think about what next session themes could be useful for the society. In the session yesterday we talked about if the 'scientific paper' as as form was optimal + what the next scientific paper could look like. What would the future be of scientific communication?

Smith and Morowitz, The Origin and Nature Of Life on Earth
I'm trying to pick through this pretty dense textbook from Smith and Morowitz about their theory of the fourth geosphere.
Main problem to me is that the amount of pre-requisites it requires is pretty huge. I do not know much geochemistry or biology, and even the physics section in chapter 7 on ...
